What to Pack for your Rifle Hunt

Packing the right gear and equipment can significantly impact your hunting experience. Please take this time to review and update your gear, making sure you have everything you need for a successful elk hunting trip with Teepee Creek Outfitters. Here is our essential list of what rifle hunters need to bring on a backcountry hunt trip with us!

When considering outdoor gear, it's crucial to remember that good brands are not essential, but quality often comes with a price. In this regard, we recommend considering reputable options such as Stone Glacier, Kuiu, Sitka, or First Lite. Each of these brands is known for producing durable and high-performance gear that can enhance your outdoor experience. By investing in gear from these brands, you are likely to receive products that meet your expectations and withstand the demands of your adventures.

Items Needed:

  • TOP AND BOTTOM OUTER LAYERS

  • TOP AND BOTTOM THERMALS *Try to get wool!

  • GLOVES

  • RAIN GEAR- ESSENTIAL

  • PUFFY COAT

  • HIGH-QUALITY WOOL SOCKS

  • HEADLAMP

  • HIKE PACK *You do not need a giant frame pack- just a good quality day pack will be great!

  • SLEEPING BAG *Your pick! We recommend a 0-degree bag or colder. (expect -20 through +20 approximate temperature)

  • HIGH-QUALITY HIKING BOOTS *We recommend Kenetrek, Crispi, La Sportiva, or Schnees boots.

DO NOT WAIT TO BREAK IN YOUR HUNTING BOOTS- Break in your boots well before your hunt, ensuring you are comfortable and ready to hike.

  • RIFLE AND AMMO

*You need to be confident to shoot 300 yards minimum. We recommend 270-caliber or larger. The .300 and .338 Winchester Magnums are our favorite. Quality ammunition is key. Elk are large and tough animals. You need a bonded or monolithic bullet. We trust brands like Nosler and Barnes.

  • SHOOTING STICKS- Make sure they are adjustable shooting sticks that can be set up on various terrains. We recommend the Spartan Precision Springbok. (If using a bipod, only the SPARTAN Precision Bipod is allowed- this is the only bipod able to fit in a rifle scabbard.)

  • GLASSING PAD

  • BINOS- Either 8x42 or 10x42

  • RANGE FINDER

  • HYDRATION SYSTEM- Insulated & able to hold at least 1 liter of water.
